My Views on Chong Boon School Rules

Are school rules really needed for a school? Can a school be peaceful without school rules? School rules are very important to a school, as it serves as a "guide line" for many things. Things we should not do, bring are mostly included in the school rules. It helps to keep a school safe as we would not have students punching each other for no reasons. In Chong Boon, if we ever break a rule, we would be punished by serving pride time. Pride time is actually known as detention in many other schools, but in our school, PRIDE is our core value. Pride time is to let us reflect on our core values and eventually know what is wrong. I think that rules are necessary for a school.

In Chong Boon, the school rules are more or less the same as other schools. There are rules about appearance, late coming, truancy, behaviour and other more serious offences. Truancy is very uncommon among many schools, but that does not mean that it will not happen. I agree that that that rule have to be implemented, if not you would find students missing school everyday, for no reasons. The other thing I do not agree on is that the definition of truancy in our school. It says that a pupil is considered truant if he/she is not present in school (including school events and CCA) and is unable to give a satisfactory explanation for his/her absence. For the CCA part, many teachers are quite unreasonable and do not accept excuses from students, even if a parents letter is being given. They would mark their students as absence, and the rule Truancy would come in. I think that they should either remove the CCA part from the rule, or ask teachers to be more reasonable.

Appearance is a very important rule as it portrays the school's image. If a student looks messy, others would view the school as messy. An individual affects the whole school, and it takes a lot of efforts to build up reputation. We have to keep our hair short, not to wear jewellery and not to dye our hair. If dyeing of hair is allowed, then it would be disastrous. Imagine students with different colored hair running around in the school or outside. It would be like a gangster school. I think that this school rule is very important.

These few rules are only an example of the school rules. These rules are very important and it helps greatly in disciplining students. However, many people may feel that this rule or that rule is wrong, or should be altered. These things would definitely happen, as rules are not perfect. In my personal view, the truancy rule on the CCA should be altered or removed. Like I had said, teachers may be unreasonable and do not accept reasons. These results in our conduct in the report slip. However, in overall, we should respect the school rules and abide it.

Therefore, school rules are there for a purpose. It would guide us through our school lives and make our lives easier. We must and should follow it. In many places, there are rules. In school there are school rules; at home there are house rules. We will definitely abide by the house rules, and we should do so to the school rules too.

Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year is a grand and joyous occasion. It is a very meaningful day where every family member of a Chinese family gathers together. It is a great chance for people who have separated families like parents working overseas with the child left. Preparation are needed to carry out the occasion successfully, treats and Chinese delicacies are examples of preparation of food needed. To me, it is money time.
Every year, my family would have steamboat for the reunion dinner before the Chinese New Year, and I had always liked it. Everyone would cook their food in the steamboat, and we do it for each other too. Apart from that, I like Chinese New Year because I can get a lot of red packets from my relatives.
It is also a hassle as we had to do spring cleaning. We have to clean every part of the house and decorate the house nicely. I hate this part of Chinese New Year, but I have no choice but to proceed with the procedure, as it is a tradition. Nice Chinese-Oriented decorations were also put up in my house, and for this year, we had many cute little mice for the decorations.
I think that Chinese New Year is a great time for everyone to gather together, and have a good warm feeling. For the children, it is the money time. Therefore, every Chinese must have liked this joyous occasion.

My Reflections on the trip to the Singapore Flyer

The Singapore Flyer’s trip was a great experience for me, and I am very sure that many people will think the same. I expected the Singapore Flyer to be ugly, having small capsules, bad environment and poor facilities. The reasons are because I’ve never seen or understand anything about a capsule, especially those that can allow people to ride on it. I felt excited before I took the ride because it was something new to me, and it was a new experience. I expected a spectacular view of Singapore up there too.

The Singapore Flyer looks great and beautiful at one glance. Looking at it for a second time, I can see the magnificent looking capsules revolving around. There were elevators around many places, unique and strange shops at the venue. Of course, common stores like the 7-Eleven were there too, for people to buy snacks and food there.

Riding the Singapore Flyer was a fun and exciting trip. It was exciting when the capsule was about the reach the top. The bird’s eye view was great, and almost everything could be seen at that moment. Looking down from the above, cars look like microscopic, humans looks even smaller than cars. The Singapore River caught my attention. When I was looking it from another view, I could not see how great and grand the Singapore River was. On top of the capsule, Singapore River looked much better than it looked from other view. I had enough time to observe everything around me, and everything seemed great. If the flight was in the evening, the view would be beautiful, due to the scenery at night. It would be a “romantic” or “relaxing” scene. I would like to experience that type of scene in the future. My expectations were clearly met as I did not expect the trip to be so nice.

While being on top of the capsule with my friends, it was most memorable when the capsule was about to reach the top. We could enjoy the view above together, and it felt refreshing too. Looking at the things make us feel happy as we could see the development going on in Singapore. A friend nearly tripped over the bench there while as he was too engrossed in the surroundings that he did not noticed that he walked right into the bench.

In my opinion, the trip is definitely worth going. You could feel and “experience” Singapore up the capsules. You can see everything up there; you can enjoy and relax up there. I would take the flight again, because of the view, and the great environment. I would choose to take the flight in the evening, or at night time. I would like to experience a more relaxing and romantic view of Singapore. I would recommend this flight to my family and friends as it was too good. I would tell them all the good things about it, recommending it to them, and ask them to recommend it to their friends too. After all, this trip is worth going, and it will be a brand new experience to almost anyone.

Is technology a threat or a promise?

Technology can be a threat as well as a promise. Why is that so? It's very obvious, like in everyday life. Computers that we're using now is just an example. It improves our lives greatly, make life more convenient, more comfort and etc. Medical sciences are very improtant to the people too. They're new technologies people invented that helped sick people. Technology can be a threat too! People abuse it, and do whatever they like with it once they have it. Cars, air-conditionals are harming our environment even though it's a promising a comfort life. The gases given out are harming our ozone layer. These caused the temperature in rising greatly. In my opinion, this new technology is more of a threat than promise, we people abuses it even further, it will bring us more disasters instead of promises.

Is internet doing more harm than good ?

Internet is a great service that almost every house has. In modern time, internet is almost a "must" for everyone, as it is very convenient, quick and easy to use. Just a click could bring a whole truck of information raining down on your computer screen, which is scary sometimes. It is a must for people who are working as it helps them in presentations, charting, and even finding client. Many child plays internet games to relax and destress themselves after a whole tired day in school, sometimes even adult does that too. However, it can also lead people astray. Many people had the intention of doing bad things or crimes, just because they had read an article or played some violent games, which inspired them to do it too. In my opinion, internet is doing much good than bad, as most of its uses are for the benefit of many, not harming them.

Firstly, many businessmen needed computers for most of their projects. They need the PowerPoint to present their ideas, share it and promote it. Without it, it would be very difficult for them to explain the points one by one. It is made easier by having Microsoft PowerPoint. Imagine that a businessman that does not have an internet and computer. He might have difficulties trying to tell others what his point was, as sometimes, words is clearer than speech.

Of course, many children like us, do play games on the computer, and sometimes very violent and gore games, such as shooting games and etc. If you think that playing that will lead to us being violent, then you are very wrong. It is the mentality of the person that decides if he is to be affect by the games or not. Some people can play violent games, but they are reserved and do not act violent in any ways, as they are just playing it for leisure and de-stress, or maybe venting their anger. Of course, if your mind has an image of the violent acts, and it pictures out in reality, you would be in trouble.

I do not agree that those points will harm us. Naturally for everyone, they think that if you play violent games, you are violent. If you are a boy and plays "girlish" games, then you are sissy. It is the mind-set of the people to view how it is going to affect us. If you think that way, of course you will be affect that way. If you think otherwise, like it will not affect, it is just for leisure, then you will be fine. Therefore, in my opinion, internet is actually doing more good than harm. Harm affects you only if you let it affect.

An interesting recount on the December Holidays

During the December holidays, I went to Genting Highlands for a holiday. It's very interesting there this year because something special happened. It was early morning on that day. My family and I had our breakfast at home very early. We took a taxi to the terminal to take a bus there, except for my elder brother, as the taxi only can have 4 passengers. On our way there, we chatted with the taxi driver, and he had much information for us. After a long ride, we have finally reached the terminal, where we take bus to Malaysia.I took travel sickness medicine because I hate taking buses and get giddy when I take them. It was a pleasant trip there, everything to me was smooth, and I did not have any headache. At the “rest” stop, I had my breakfast with my parents and siblings. I had fish ball noodles and my parents ate chicken rice. Although it was just a “rest” stop, the food there tasted just like things we can find in Singapore too. After buying some snacks, we boarded the bus. After a long trip, we reached there finally. It was around three in the noon. My parents went to check in, while my siblings and I went to have our lunch. We had our lunch and went to the hotel. At night, we had our dinner, and my brother and I went to the arcade there. The interesting part to me is that when we played there, we found many friends, which we never did before. In the past, we just mind our own business and play our own games. Now, people associate with us and even made friends with us. After that, we had our dinner together. On the second day, we went out again. We had much fun there and gathered on the last day, we bid farewell to each other, and our family went home by a coach. It was the same thing as the day we went to Genting, just that it was a trip back instead. It was a pleasant and fun trip for me; at least it was definitely better than previous years.
